Creating a New Brand for Whitby School: A Journey from Concept to Cohesive Identity

At Impulse Trust Services, we’re passionate about helping schools and educational institutions establish strong, meaningful brands that reflect their values and unique character. Our recent project with Whitby School allowed us to do just that, working closely with the team to develop a brand identity that would resonate with students, staff, and the community alike. This project took us from initial exploration through to a polished, final design, complete with a comprehensive brand guideline and logo set.

Understanding the School’s Vision: The Branding Questionnaire

We kicked off the branding process with our custom branding questionnaire, which is a core part of our approach. This questionnaire is designed to capture everything we need to know about the school’s identity, values, and aspirations. By gathering insights from Whitby School’s leadership, we gained a clear understanding of their vision for the brand, including the messages they wanted to communicate and the emotions they hoped to evoke.

The responses to the questionnaire were invaluable, giving us a solid foundation on which to start designing. We were able to get a sense of the school’s core values, its commitment to excellence, and the community-driven spirit that defines Whitby School. This thorough understanding allowed us to create concepts that felt authentic and aligned with Whitby School’s unique identity.

Exploring Concepts: Developing Brand Variations

With a clear direction in mind, we began creating various logo and branding concepts that reflected the essence of Whitby School. We presented a range of options, each designed to capture different aspects of the school’s identity—from its heritage and location to its academic achievements and community values.

Through a collaborative process, we worked closely with the school’s team to review and refine each concept. This stage was all about exploration, gathering feedback, and ensuring that the design resonated with the team at Whitby. Bit by bit, we narrowed down the options, bringing us closer to a final design that truly captured the spirit of Whitby School.

 

 

The Final Logo and Brand Guidelines

After carefully considering the feedback and refining our concepts, we arrived at the final logo—a design that both the school and our team felt encapsulated the heart of Whitby School. The logo was elegant yet bold, professional yet welcoming, reflecting the school’s academic commitment and its role within the community.

Once the logo was finalized, we moved on to developing a brand guideline that would serve as a reference for Whitby School’s visual identity across all platforms. This comprehensive guide included specifications on logo usage, color palette, typography, and imagery, ensuring consistency and cohesiveness in the school’s branding. Additionally, we provided a complete logo set with variations for different uses, from digital to print, so Whitby School can confidently apply their brand across a range of mediums.

A Cohesive Brand for Whitby School’s Future

Working on this project was a rewarding experience, and we’re proud to see Whitby School’s new brand come to life.
